Less clutter, more living.
Less hassle, more progress.
Why are we so obsessed with optimizing everything? We spend ages perfecting systems, hunting for the ideal app, tweaking every tiny detail—meanwhile, life's happening all around us. It's like polishing the brass on a sinking ship.
There's a Buddhist koan: "Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water." Maybe it's not about perfecting the process but finding meaning in the act itself.
So instead of fine-tuning every little thing, maybe we should ask: does this even need to be here? Sometimes, the smartest move isn't to optimize but to eliminate altogether.
In growth marketing, I've learned that eliminating certain things can make a world of difference. Here are three examples:
1. Endless A/B Testing on Tiny Details
We spend so much time testing button colors or tweaking headline fonts, thinking it's the key to conversion. But honestly, these minor tweaks often don't move the needle. Instead of obsessing over them, focus on bigger strategies that actually make an impact.
2. Overcomplicated Sales Funnels
Creating elaborate funnels with multiple steps and touchpoints can confuse and lose potential customers. Do we really need all those hoops for people to jump through? Cut out unnecessary steps and simplify the process. A straightforward path can lead to better conversions.
3. Chasing Every New Trend or Platform
Every time a new social media platform or marketing trend pops up, we jump on it hoping for quick wins. But spreading ourselves too thin dilutes our efforts. Eliminate the urge to be everywhere at once. Focus on channels that actually bring results and align with your audience.
By getting rid of these time-wasters, we can concentrate on what truly drives growth. Sometimes, the smartest optimization is just letting go of what's holding us back.
So stop tweaking and start eliminating. Life's too short to be stuck in endless optimization loops. Less clutter, more living. Less hassle, more progress.
